A structured, in-person process for meeting Long Island singles ... no swiping, no uncertainty. Here's exactly what to expect from start to finish.

Meet Long Island Singles Face-to-Face
Long Island speed dating gives local singles an opportunity to meet several potential matches during one organized evening. Instead of spending days or weeks exchanging messages online, you can have real conversations, experience someone’s personality, and decide whether you would like to speak again.
WeekendDating has been bringing singles together since 2003. Our events are designed to make meeting new people easier, more comfortable, and less confusing. You will know the intended age range, venue, date, time, and event format before you register.
Each speed dating event includes a series of short one-on-one conversations. At the end of the event, you privately indicate which participants you would be interested in seeing again. Your results are then processed and generally sent the following morning.
The goal is not to decide whether someone is your perfect long-term partner during a four-minute conversation. The goal is simply to determine whether there is enough chemistry, comfort, or curiosity to continue the conversation another day.
The Step-by-Step Process
Step 01
Choose the Right Event
Browse upcoming events by age range, date, and location. Each listing identifies the intended ages for men and women, the venue, the starting time, and other important details.
Selecting the right event helps create a room where participants are more likely to meet people within their preferred dating range. WeekendDating offers events throughout the year for singles in different stages of life, including singles in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond.
Read the complete event description before purchasing your ticket. Individual events may have different check-in times, venue arrangements, age requirements, or participation instructions.
Step 02
Understand the Age Structure
Every event lists specific age ranges for men and women. Proof of age is required at check-in, so please bring a valid government-issued photo ID showing your date of birth.
We generally allow a small grace period when appropriate, typically up to two years. This provides limited flexibility for someone who is very close to the listed range without changing the overall age makeup of the event.
Age ranges help attendees understand who an event is intended for. They are not meant to suggest that age alone determines compatibility. Personality, values, lifestyle, attraction, and timing can all play an important role in whether two people connect.
Step 03
Reserve Your Spot
Once you find the right event, reserve your ticket through WeekendDating.com. We monitor registration and make a reasonable effort to maintain a balanced number of men and women.
Because each participant needs someone to meet during every round, the number of tickets available for each gender may be limited. One side of an event may sell out before the other, so registering early gives you the best opportunity to secure a place.
After registration, review your confirmation carefully. It will contain the event date, location, arrival instructions, and other information you may need before attending.
Step 04
Attend and Meet Local Singles
Arrive at the venue at the check-in time shown in your confirmation. At check-in, you will show your identification and receive the materials or instructions needed for the matching process.
Before the dating portion begins, the event host will explain the rotations, timing, and matching procedure. You will then participate in a series of mini-dates, generally lasting approximately four to five minutes each.
Depending on registration and attendance, you may meet up to 15 singles during one event. When a round ends, the host will signal that it is time to move to the next conversation.
The structured rotation means you do not have to approach strangers across a crowded room or wonder whether someone is available. Every registered participant is there to meet other local singles.
Step 05
Get Your Results
At the end of the event, privately indicate which participants you would be interested in speaking with again. Your selections are not announced publicly, and other attendees do not see your completed match card.
Results are usually sent the next morning. A mutual match occurs when two participants select each other. Mutual matches receive each other’s contact information so they can decide whether to continue the conversation.
WeekendDating also reports one-way interest. This means someone may have selected you even if you did not initially select that person. You can then decide whether you would like to reconsider and request an introduction.
What to Expect at a Long Island Speed Dating Event
It is normal to feel nervous before attending your first speed dating event. Many participants are stepping outside their comfort zones, and most people in the room understand exactly how that feels.
The evening usually begins with check-in and time to get settled. Depending on the venue, drinks or food may be available for individual purchase. The host will welcome the group, explain how everything works, and answer any necessary questions before the first round begins.
Once the mini-dates begin, you do not need a rehearsed introduction or a list of clever lines. A natural conversation is usually best. You might talk about where you live, what you enjoy doing on weekends, favorite restaurants, travel, entertainment, family, hobbies, work, or what brought you to the event.
Four or five minutes may sound brief, but it is often enough time to notice whether a conversation feels comfortable. You may quickly discover shared interests, similar values, a sense of humor, or a level of attraction that makes you curious to learn more.
Not every conversation will lead to a match, and that is perfectly normal. Speed dating is about creating opportunities. One genuine connection can make the entire evening worthwhile.
How the Speed Dating Format Works
WeekendDating events are organized so participants have a fair opportunity to meet the other eligible singles in attendance. The exact number of mini-dates depends on registration, attendance, venue conditions, and last-minute changes.
We generally aim for as many as 15 mini-dates, with each conversation lasting approximately four to five minutes. Some events may have fewer participants, while larger events may require adjustments to the timing or rotation.
During traditional speed dating, one group generally remains seated while the other group rotates after each round. The host manages the timing and tells participants when to begin and end each conversation.
You do not have to remember where to go next or manage the schedule yourself. The structure is handled for you, allowing you to focus on the person sitting across from you.
Short conversations also help keep the evening moving. When there is strong chemistry, you have the option to select that person and continue speaking after the event. When there is not a connection, the next conversation is only a few minutes away.
We monitor registration and may use waiting lists, ticket limits, or temporary registration holds to support a more balanced event. Exact gender balance cannot be guaranteed because illness, emergencies, transportation problems, and unexpected cancellations can happen.
Speed Dating Venues in Nassau and Suffolk Counties
Our Long Island singles events are held at participating restaurants, lounges, hotels, entertainment venues, and gathering spaces throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties.
The exact venue is listed on each event registration page. Depending on the location, the event may take place in a private room, a semi-private restaurant section, a lounge area, a hotel meeting space, a courtyard, or another area reserved for the group.
We look for venues that provide an appropriate atmosphere for conversation. Some locations are casual and relaxed, while others offer a more polished restaurant or cocktail-lounge setting.
Venue arrangements can differ from one event to another. Seating, parking, food service, beverage availability, accessibility, and transportation options depend on the individual location.
Whenever possible, relevant information is included in the event description or confirmation. Participants are responsible for parking fees, food, beverages, or venue purchases unless the event listing specifically states that something is included with admission.
We encourage attendees to check the venue location in advance and allow enough travel time. Long Island traffic and parking conditions can vary, particularly on weekends and during busy evening hours.
Preparing for Your First Speed Dating Event
Most people attend speed dating alone. You do not need to bring a friend, know anyone in the room, or be naturally outgoing. The organized format gives you a reason to speak with each participant without having to make the first approach.
Arriving on time is one of the most important things you can do. Getting there early gives you time to park, locate the event area, check in, use the restroom, and settle down before the introductions begin.
Dress as though you are going on a casual first date. Formal clothing is usually unnecessary, but your appearance should show that you made an effort. A neat, comfortable, smart-casual outfit works well for most events unless the listing states otherwise.
Before the event, think of a few subjects you enjoy discussing. Open-ended questions tend to create better conversations than questions that can be answered with only yes or no.
For example, instead of asking someone whether they enjoy traveling, you might ask about their favorite trip or a place they hope to visit. Instead of asking whether they like movies, ask what they have watched recently and enjoyed.
Try not to turn the conversation into an interview. You do not need to cover every serious relationship topic in the first few minutes. Share something about yourself, listen carefully, and allow the conversation to develop naturally.
It can also be helpful to make a brief note after each date. After several conversations, names and details can blend together. A few words about a shared interest or memorable topic may help you make accurate selections later.
Getting the Most From Each Conversation
Give every participant your full attention during the mini-date. Put away your phone, maintain comfortable eye contact, and listen to the answers being shared.
First impressions matter, but they are not always complete. Some people are naturally confident from the first round, while others need a few conversations before they relax and show more of their personality.
Try not to dismiss someone solely because of one nervous moment, an awkward opening question, or a brief pause in the conversation. Consider the entire interaction and how you felt while speaking with that person.
At the same time, you should never feel pressured to select someone. Your choices are private, and you are free to select as many or as few people as you genuinely wish to speak with again.
Kindness matters whether or not there is romantic chemistry. Every attendee has made an effort to show up and meet new people. Treating each participant with respect helps create a better experience for the entire group.
Understanding Mutual and One-Way Matches
A mutual match happens when two people independently select each other. Because the interest is shared, each person receives the other participant’s contact information.
What happens next is entirely up to the two participants. One person may send a short message mentioning something they discussed during the event and ask whether the other person would like to continue the conversation.
A one-way match means one participant expressed interest but the other person did not initially select them. WeekendDating reports this information because people sometimes overlook a name, confuse participant numbers, or change their minds after thinking about the evening.
One-way match information gives the receiving participant an opportunity to reconsider. It does not obligate anyone to make contact or accept an introduction.
Whether you receive several matches, one match, or no match at a particular event, remember that every group is different. Meeting the right person often requires patience, timing, and a willingness to continue creating new opportunities.
What Happens After the Event
Results are normally processed and sent the following morning. Be sure that the email address you use during registration is correct and check your spam or promotions folder if you do not initially see the message.
When you receive a mutual match, a simple and friendly first message is usually best. Mention the event, remind the person of something you discussed, and suggest continuing the conversation.
You do not need to write a long message or immediately plan an elaborate date. The purpose of the follow-up is to reopen the conversation and see whether the initial connection continues outside the event.
When meeting someone after an event, use the same good judgment you would use with any new acquaintance. Choose a public location, arrange your own transportation, and let someone you trust know where you will be.
Speed dating creates the introduction, but building a relationship takes time. The next step may be a phone call, a cup of coffee, dinner, a walk, or another simple opportunity to talk.
Why Singles Choose In-Person Speed Dating
Dating apps can be helpful, but online profiles do not always show how someone communicates in person. A photo cannot reveal someone’s voice, energy, sense of humor, mannerisms, or the feeling of sitting across from them.
In-person events allow you to move beyond profiles and messaging. Within one evening, you can meet several local singles who are actively making an effort to connect.
Speed dating also reduces some common uncertainty. You do not have to wonder whether the person is single, whether they are interested in meeting people, or whether they are close to your preferred age range. The event structure establishes those expectations in advance.
There is no guarantee that every event will produce a romantic match. However, every event gives you a chance to practice meeting people, improve your confidence, and create possibilities that would not exist if you stayed home.
