Frequently Asked Questions About Long Island Speed Dating

Answers to the most common questions about Long Island speed dating events ... age ranges, reservations, matches, results, cancellations, and what to expect on the night.

If you are new to speed dating, it is normal to have questions before signing up. Many Long Island singles want to know how the night works, who attends, how age ranges are handled, when results are sent, and what happens if they do or do not make a match. This page answers the most common questions so you can feel more comfortable before choosing an event.
It is much more relaxed than it sounds. Every event is hosted by an experienced moderator who walks everyone through what to expect before the mini-dates begin. Because each conversation is short - typically 4 to 5 minutes - there is very little pressure. If you do not feel a connection with someone, it wraps up quickly and you move on. Most attendees say it feels more like a social evening than a formal dating exercise.
Age ranges are clearly listed for each event and are verified at check-in. We take them seriously because they help keep the experience fair and accurate for everyone in the room. People choose an event because they want to meet singles in a specific age range and life stage, so we do our best to honor what was advertised. That said, a small grace period is sometimes allowed when it makes sense, typically up to two years. The decision is made thoughtfully, not arbitrarily.
For regular speed dating events, proof of age is required at check-in. This keeps the age groups accurate and fair for everyone attending. A government-issued photo ID is the standard form of verification. This policy also helps protect the quality of the event because attendees should feel confident that the group matches the age range they signed up for. A small grace period may be extended when appropriate, but attendees who misrepresent their age may not be allowed to participate.
The age ranges are set intentionally, based on actual attendance patterns and what tends to produce the best balance in the room. The goal is a well-matched group, not a random bracket. When the ranges differ between men and women, it is because the data and experience behind our events supports that structure.
You can meet up to 15 singles in a single event. The exact number depends on attendance, gender balance, and how the evening flows, but events are sized to give everyone a meaningful number of conversations without making the night feel rushed or overwhelming. Some events may have fewer dates and some may have more, depending on the group. The goal is not just quantity. The goal is to give you several real face-to-face introductions with local singles in your age range.
Each mini-date is typically around 4 to 5 minutes. That is enough time to get a basic feel for whether you would be open to a second conversation, not a full read on someone's personality, but a real first impression. After the event, you submit your picks privately.
Results are usually sent the next morning. You will not be waiting long. The system processes everyone's picks and delivers your matches by email. If you have a mutual match, that means both people selected each other and contact information is shared. If one-way match information is included, you may also see who expressed interest even if the match was not mutual. If you do not see your results, check your spam or promotions folder.
It happens, and it is completely normal. Chemistry in person does not always line up the way we expect. Not getting a match at one event does not mean you did anything wrong or that speed dating cannot work for you. Many of our most successful attendees came back for a second or third event before finding someone they clicked with. The evening itself - meeting new people, practicing conversation, getting out of the routine, and putting yourself in the right room - has real value on its own.
Yes. Results include both mutual matches and one-way matches. A mutual match means both people selected each other. A one-way match means the interest was yours but not returned, or theirs but not yours. Either way, you get a clear picture of where things stand after the event.
Yes. Advance registration is required. Space is limited and we carefully balance the number of men and women at each event, so walk-ins are generally not possible. Reserving ahead of time also helps us plan the seating, rotation, check-in process, and match system before the event begins. If you see an event that fits your age range, schedule, and location, it is best to reserve early because spots can close once one side of the event fills. You can browse upcoming events and reserve your spot on our Events page.
For regular speed dating events: if you cancel at least 5 business days before the event, a refund can be issued minus the processing fee. If you cancel 2 to 4 days out, we may be able to apply a credit toward a future event. Cancellations the day before or the day of the event do not qualify for a refund or credit. Some special events may have different policies listed at the time of booking.
We understand that things come up. That said, same-day/ day before,/ last-minute cancellations do not qualify for a refund or credit. Speed dating events are carefully balanced, and a late absence affects the experience for everyone else who showed up.

No. Our events are held in Nassau and Suffolk counties, but you are welcome to attend from wherever you are willing to travel. Some attendees come from Queens, Brooklyn, or other nearby areas to meet Long Island singles.
Events take place at venues across Nassau and Suffolk counties - typically restaurants, bars, lounges, or private event spaces with a comfortable atmosphere. The specific venue is listed on each event page when you book. We look for locations that are reasonably accessible, appropriate for conversation, and suitable for an organized singles event. Since the schedule changes, the best way to see current locations is to check the upcoming events page.
Dress in a way that makes you feel confident, comfortable, and put together. Most Long Island speed dating events are held at restaurants, lounges, or social venues, so neat casual or smart casual usually works well. You do not need to overdress, but you should look like you made an effort.
Keep the conversation light, friendly, and natural. You can ask about weekends, hobbies, favorite Long Island spots, travel, work, family, or what made the person decide to try speed dating. The goal is not to interview someone. The goal is to get a quick sense of personality, energy, and connection.
Yes, many people attend by themselves. That is completely normal. The event is structured, so you do not need to bring a friend or figure out how to walk into a random room alone. Once the event starts, everyone is guided through the same process.
Events may be held in different parts of Long Island depending on the schedule, including Nassau and Suffolk County locations. Some attendees choose the location closest to home, while others are willing to travel a little farther for the right age range or event format. Check the event listings for the current venue, city, date, and time.
Dating apps can be useful, but many singles are tired of messages that go nowhere. Speed dating gives you a chance to meet real people face to face in one night. You can hear someone's voice, see their personality, and know much faster whether there may be chemistry. It is not about replacing every other way of dating. It is about giving yourself another real opportunity.
It depends on where things stand. If you are on a temporary break or hiatus with a partner, our events are probably not the right fit at this time. If you are separated and have already begun divorce proceedings, you may attend, but we do ask that you be straightforward with the people you meet. Everyone at our events is looking for a genuine connection.

Still Thinking About Trying Speed Dating?

If you are nervous, that is normal. Most first-time attendees feel the same way before they arrive. The good news is that the format is simple, the host guides the night, and the conversations are short enough to keep things moving. You do not have to be perfect. You just have to show up, be friendly, and give yourself the chance to meet local singles in real life.
